Background to this village resident list

There are many lists of immigrants or residents of Galicia, such as the Vienna transit documents and the Bredetzky survey. It should be noted that most of the settlers came directly from Germany, and although Czernowitz was in Bukovina, it was included because some of its early settlers relocated there from villages in Galicia such as Brigidau and Josefsberg.  Czernowitz also served as the parish for Augustdorf and Kolomea-Baginsberg until parishes were established in those villages.
